Snoop caries detecting dye works well for any conservative cavity preparation. This propylene-glycol-based detector stains infected dentin in 10 seconds (soft, non-vital, external layers). This carious dentin cannot remineralize and should be removed. However, the 10-second application does not stain inner affected dentin that is vital, sensitive, and not infused with bacteria. This dentin is capable of remineralizing, and should not be removed. So, simply remove what gets stained blue!
